1. Is WorkSource the same as the Texas Workforce Commission?

No. WorkSource is one of 28 regional workforce boards created by the Texas Legislature in 1995. TWC, however, is charged with overseeing the activities of all the workforce boards.

2. Is WorkSource a state agency?

No. Although established by the Texas Legislature and publicly-funded, WorkSource is a non-profit organization.

3. Does the Board operate the Career Centers?

No. By law, WorkSource – Greater Austin Area Workforce Board cannot provide direct services. Therefore, the Board contracts with one or more organizations to provide and manage the services offered by the Career Centers.

4. Are the services provided free or is there a fee?

Because WorkSource is a publicly-funded and non-profit organization, many of the services provided are at no-cost to the user. Some services, such as skills assessments and business seminars, are expanded services and are provided for a reasonable fee.

5. Are there other workforce boards in Texas?
